The 2016 Combat Injured Veterans Tax Fairness Act is the catalyst for refunds between $1,750 - $3,200 totaling $228 Million related to disability severance pay. There is just one year to take action and receive your refund. So many people simply assume that letter from the IRS or DoD is not of interest or concern to them and toss it in the trash. I am encouraging all of my veteran clients (over 1,000 of you) to open anything you get in the mail from the IRS (always) but if not at least have a look at the correspondence in the very near future!
